Rathmell School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, which means that it is set up by a voluntary body, usually a church body and in this case the local diocese, largely financed by the Local Authority. The governing body employs the staff and controls pupil admissions and religious education.

School Children Want to Stop Climate Change!

On the Third of February 2011, Y5 children and two Y4 children went to a Climate Change Conference, they were keen to stop Global Warming. The children went to Thirsk.

The people who worked there showed the children how the polar bears and penguins were becoming endangered. A person called Richard Dunne spoke to the children about not buying plastic bottles because it uses energy and causes pollution.

The children each had a go on a pedal bike, the harder they pedalled the more energy saving light bulbs lit up. The children each explored a model of a miniature eco house. After a while, everybody got their picture taken on the race course stands. When the children had finished their lunch they saw a slide show about Global Warming.

The children arrived by Bibby’s bus at the conference at 09:00. They took the children home at 17:00. Rathmell children had a big lunch. When the children came back they were absolutely shattered after their adventurous day out. All the children enjoyed themselves and learned a lot!
